Jane moved to Chawton Cottage in 1809, and happily lived here for the last eight years of her life. Jane’s niece said that Jane took a keen interest in the affairs of all her neighbours, and ‘liked immensely to hear all about them’. Join us for a guided walk around Chawton to find out what and who inspired her writing!

Jane Austen House Museum 70th Anniversary Party

Jane Austen’s House Museum first opened to the public on 23 July 1949. This year, on the 70th anniversary of the official opening date, the first 70 visitors will be able to purchase Museum admission at the original 1949 ticket price of 1/6d. All visitors will receive a special commemorative ticket, based on the original invitation to the opening of the House in 1949.

You are invited to a special birthday party to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Jane Austen’s House Museum. There are many activities are taking place throughout the day, including live music performed by one of Britain’s leading violinists Sophie Langdon. Children can play Regency games, and dress up in regency costumes whilst dancing along to the Duke of Wellington Dancers.

Jane Austen Festival Bath

The 19th Jane Austen Festival has ten wonderful days of celebrating all things Austen in the beautiful Georgian city of Bath. Festival Friends box office opens Monday 17 June, with general tickets on sale Monday 1 July. Special events include a Regency Costumed Mask Ball a Costumed Promenade along the Close, and a Ghost Walk around the city.

Alton Regency Week

A 9-day annual festival held in Alton and Chawton, and each day there are Jane Austen themed talks and walks taking place. Jane Austen Regency Day is on Saturday 22 June and there are carriage rides, stalls, talks, music, walks, as well as a Regency Ball in the evening.
