Hawkness created a new rose named the Jane Austen Bicentennary Rose in2017.
A pretty orange rose, it was created to mark 200 years since Jane died. Alan Titchmarsh unveiled the roses on 17 July 2017 at a special ceremony at the Jane Austen House Museum in Chawton.
When in flower, the roses are an intense and vibrant orange, with some yellow shades on the reverse of the petals.
They can be seen in the flower beds at the side of the entrance to Chawton Cottage. They bloomed wonderfully this summer, though as you can see, they have been cut back to ensure they bloom next year.
